Protect your customers, workforce, students, and family from the risk of Coronavirus infection spread

The use of digital thermometers can help reduce the risk of Coronavirus (Covid-19) infection spread by early detection of elevated body temperatures in humans and those showing possible signs of fever.

The World Health Organization’s guidelines suggest that thermometers can be part of a broader strategy to reduce the infection spread. Persons showing signs of elevated body temperature can then be further screened and interviewed about recent travels and contacts, and medically examined and isolated if necessary.

Our quality brand name digital infrared thermometer products from Extech by FLIR Systems, and UNI-T by Uni-Trend, both leaders in non-contact temperature measurement and test & measurement products, provide accurate scanning for elevated forehead temperatures.

Extech IR200 and UNI-T UT300R non-contact forehead digital thermometers have the advantage of simple and sanitary operation, obtaining quick and accurate temperature measurement in less than 1 second. With an audible high-temperature fever alarm alert tone and clear backlit LCD screen, operators can easily identify persons showing signs of elevated body temperatures and refer them for further examination and verification.

How Infrared forehead thermometers work

IR forehead thermometers use an electronic sensing scanner to measure the skin temperature of the temporal artery region of the forehead. IR thermometers allow accurate temperature readings to be obtained by scanning the forehead area within the distance specified by the manufacturer in order to obtain an accurate measurement.

Our models offer scanning distances of 5 – 15cm. After aiming the thermometer at the forehead, the user presses the trigger and an accurate result is provided within 0.5 seconds of scanning. The subject's temperature is displayed on a clear backlit LCD. This Non-contact technique reduces the potential spread of diseases compared with touch thermometers.

It should be noted that the forehead surface area is prone to changes in temperature due to external heating and cooling factors. With cold winter days approaching, we recommended that persons being scanned have acclimatized at room temperature prior to taking measurements after being exposed to low or high environmental temperatures. Extech and UNI-T products have a measurement accuracy of 0.5°C (0.3°F) when used under recommended conditions.

Safe for use on children too

IR forehead thermometers work equally well on kids too, including infants over 3 months old. They provide an effective low-cost option for schools and day-care centers to identify children and students showing signs of fever. Due to their non-contact nature, IR thermometers do not pose a physical risk to people being scanned and are void of any laser devices that can be harmful to the eyes.

Dual-use functionality

The Extech IR200 offers the added benefits of a dual-use temperature measurement tool. When you are not scanning human skin for elevated temperatures, move the body/surface measurement selection switch to the surface position for non-contact surface temperature measurements of objects from 0.0°C to 60.0°C (32°F to 140°F)

Enjoy peace of mind

Note: Digital infrared forehead thermometers are intended for scanning individuals or monitoring an individual for potential elevated temperatures. It is not a substitute for a clinical thermometer. Always use a clinical thermometer when high accuracy body temperature measurements are required.

IR Thermometers that detect elevated body temperature will vary with various factors and should not be relied upon as the sole determinant of a person’s body temperature. The use of additional medical devices and/or healthcare professionals will be needed to properly diagnose the condition of persons in any health screening assessment to identify elevated body temperature for any person.
